“Time” sees Baerbock as a rising star

Washington (AP) - The US magazine "Time" sees Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock (Greens) as one of the world's 100 rising personalities. Explaining her selection, which was published on Wednesday, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken wrote: "When I think about what makes me optimistic in these times, it's having a partner who so seamlessly blends principle and pragmatism."

According to Blinken, the minister has managed to bring the US and Germany, as well as all transatlantic allies, closer together despite global challenges - including Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. "She's never lost faith in the inherent strength of our democracies, rooted in our freedoms, our respect for human rights, and our unique capacity to keep making ourselves better," the secretary of state added. "And she has a crack for rallying more partners around that vision and translating it into the practical."

The Time article profiles 100 “rising stars”

from all walks of life and countries, including musicians, entrepreneurs, activists and politicians. “What unites these individuals are their extraordinary efforts to shape our world – and to define our future,” the magazine explained. The list is independent of Time's better-known ranking of the 100 most influential people in the world - a list in which, for example, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel appeared several times.
